THE MESSAGE BEHIND "VANENAUTI"
Before the advent of GPS, electric autopilots, and modern sailing technologies, long distance sailors confronted a fundamental challenge: the relentless demand of manual steering.
In response, they turned to nature, specifically the wind, as a means to relieve this burden.
Thus emerged the wind vane self-steering system: an ingenious mechanical autopilot favoured by long-distance sailors. These systems harness the wind’s direction through an elegant arrangement of vanes, gears, and control lines, enabling a sailboat to maintain a consistent angle to the wind without the need for energy. Their primary function was to preserve a steady course through self-sufficient, efficient, and reliable steering during extended voyages.

Waris Khan
From a lineage of mariners, I’ve spent my life around vessels, from shipyards to open seas.
Vanenauti is my way of bringing that heritage, engineering precision, and commercial discipline together to help others navigate the same world with confidence.
Vanenauti was founded by Waris Khan, a Naval Architect and Maritime Engineer with a background in defence shipbuilding and a family heritage deeply rooted in the maritime world.
Raised in a lineage of seafarers and engineers, Waris developed a lifelong connection to vessels and the people who build, operate, and depend on them.
His career has since spanned design, production engineering, project delivery, sustainment, and R&D, including authorship of an internationally published first-of-class paper on advanced systems integration in novel vessels.
These experiences have equipped Waris with a rare ability to bridge the gap between technical precision and commercial performance, a capability that defines Vanenauti’s approach to the complex world of yachting and maritime operations.
